Today is World Elephant Day. I feel absolutely privileged to have seen both the African and Asian Elephant in their natural habitat. Today is World Refugee Day. I think it’s an important day to reflect and realize how many people walking among us have been displaced from terrible situations. This year I’m sure my life will be impacted in a positive way as I embark on being a part of a team that supports student refugees who have been selected on a scholarship as well as in September when I go to work in a refugee camp. Yesterday I was honored to meet a vibrant young woman who fled Syria and now is pursuing her PhD in Mathematics. It truly is inspiring to see someone who has literally been through hell but today can remain hopeful and wear a bright smile. If anyone has Netflix I highly recommend watching Born in Syria. This is in the cutest town of Paraty, Brazil. Designed by the Portuguese to sit below sea level, they allow the tied to come in and out, cleaning the streets on a regular basis.
